Born in Havana City, Cuba, Ruben Vazquez is a graduate of the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory in Havana, Cuba, where he studied choral conducting. He moved to Toronto in 1995 and finished his Bachelor Degree in Jazz studies at Humber College. He later finished his Master in Arts at York University in 2017 and in 2023, completed his PhD. He is an active pianist in the Toronto Latin Jazz scene.
With over 30 years of performance experience, Mr. Vazquez has performed and recorded with multiple artists, including Jane Bunnett, Luis Mario Ochoa, Alexis Baro, Brownman, Marta Elena and Pablo Acea, salsa singers Tony Vega and Maelo Ruiz, and for several Latin Bands including Fantasia, Caché, La Borinqueña, Son Aché, and many others. Mr. Vazquez has also performed at the Genie Awards and at the Latin Grammy celebrations in Toronto. He has been a member of The Royal Conservatory of Music faculty since 2003 and also teaches at Humber College since 2021.
